Hi, my name is Dr. Bill Fischer. I have been a practicing clinical psychologist for forty years. My current psychotherapeutic approach integrates the wide variety of clinical experiences and training I have had in my my career.. My clients have also been varied, ranging from neonates and their parents, preschoolers & school-aged children, teenagers, and adults of all ages and couples.
All of my current work is with adult individuals and couples. The psychotherapeutic approaches that my clients and I have found useful include psychodynamic, behavioral, existential, biofeedback, mindfulness, attachment-based, internal family systems (IFS) and Intimacy From the Inside Out (IFIO), I am a Level II trained clinician in Internal Family Systems and IFIO (Intimacy from the Inside Out).
I approach each client, individual or couple, with a collaborative spirit. We develop a treatment relationship based on the burdens that the client wants relief from and on their interests in what they want to change and how they want to grow. I use my knowledge and experience actively in the intimate space of psychotherapy. A spirit of respect, acceptance, and compassion is cultivated throughout my work with individual and couples.
The goal of the psychotherapeutic relationship we form together is to help my client (an individual, or a couple) to courageously engage their difficulties and challenge themselves to respond in a more rewarding and connected way to what they are encountering both inside and outside of themselves. The compassionate, non-judgemental and focused interest by myself on what is happening inside my clients is a value I hope to cultivate in my clients towards themselves . This makes the inevitable resistances to self-knowledge, problem solving, changing and healing less daunting.
In sum, I see psychotherapy (be it individual or couples) as a temporary secure, safe base for clients where they can find the support to courageously and constructively encounter their pain, unhappiness and burdens and make movement towards their resolution. The goal is for clients to receive the support, knowledge and challenge they need to take both the internal as well as the relational and behavioral actions that are necessary to genuinely and effectively address their burdens and concerns.
